Tips on helping students and patrons research this month's topic
For many of us, the spring season means longer days, first blooms, warmer temperatures, and irritating allergies! As many as 35 million Americans usher in the season with itchy eyes, sneezing, and stuffy noses. Fortunately, spring also means National Public Health Week (April 6-12) is upon us and is, therefore, the perfect time to boost our immune systems, and our awareness of public health issues. With the recent comeback of the measles in the news, this is a great opportunity to open discussions around health, hygiene and relating policies. After all, public health is contagious!

Get involved in National Public Health Week by raising awareness of health related topics such as:
Allergies (Lexile 1130)
Infectious Disease (Lexile 1160L)
Vaccination (1170)
Nutrition (Lexile 1080L)
Weaving the Stories of Women's Lives

Pro Tip
With a long history of struggling over health-care reforms in the United States, health care is a topic that can channel opposing opinions. The passage of Obamacare has raised the long-debated question of the government's role in health care. This month, conduct a productive discussion with your students with the Pro/Con topic:

Is Health Care a Government Responsibility?
